MAP 2022 Annual Conference

Covid Planning

The Natural World, Banff

Hello everyone,

On behalf of the local organising committee for the Medieval Association of the Pacific’s (MAP) 2022 conference, “The Natural World,” and the MAP Executive and Council, thank you for your patience as we attempt to plan in, and for, ever-changing environments due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The local organising committee is moving forward with next steps for the conference, to be held at the Banff Centre, 21-24 April. It is our intention, coronavirus restrictions permitting, to meet in person at the Banff Centre. Everything is in place for meeting in April, if we are permitted.

As I know you all understand, Covid and the emerging Omicron-variant have made it necessary for us to shift our deadlines for communication to potential delegates, and travel and planning of all kinds have been complicated. For this reason, the MAP Executive and local organising committee have decided to wait until 20 February to make a firm decision about whether we will go forward for an in-person conference, and to decide on prudent options if meeting in-person becomes not possible. You will hear from us as soon as possible after that date as to steps going forward.

For this reason, if you have decided that should we meet in-person, that you are not able to attend, please write to me (kolsen@mtroyal.ca) immediately. Additionally, should you require confirmation that your paper has been accepted for delivery at MAP 2022, (for funding or travel policies) please let me know and I am happy to assist.

You are welcome to write to me with any questions (kolsen@mtroyal.ca).

Happy New Year, and fingers crossed we will see each other in person in April.

Sincerely,

Kenna (Chair, Local Organising Committee, MAP 2022)
